This Victory Is Eminent

leave a comment »

Today has seen some pretty depressing entries, what with moms getting off from killing their kids and the Mideast going to hell in a handbasket. However, there is some good news on the horizon; score one for the good guys in an eminent domain struggle near where I used to live.

Property owners in southwest Ohio won a major victory Wednesday, when the Ohio Supreme Court overruled an appellate court and declared that a portion of the state’s eminent domain statute is unconstitutional.

In a unanimous decision, the seven justices of the state’s highest court ruled the city of Norwood didn’t have the right to take two houses in its Edwards Road corridor to make way for a high-end commercial and residential development.

The decision overturned the 1st District Court of Appeals ruling that granted the suburban Cincinnati city the right to take the residence of Carl and Joy Gamble and the home of Joseph Horney and his wife Carol Gooch.

Fuck you Big Government. Fuck you Big Private Land Developer. Fuck you Five Communists on the Supreme Court.

Kofi Is The Rocket Man

leave a comment »

So the United Nations decides to stick around in a war zone and several “observers” got killed by an Israeli rocket, prompting Kofi Annan to say that it appeared that Israel was targeting his people. Well Israel did say they were going to go after terrorists. When I first heard this my guess was that Hezbollah was probably moving closer to that U.N. outpost; a letter Glenn Beck read earlier today on his radio show confirmed my guess. According to this letter, one of the observers who eventually was killed in the strike said that the Israeli shelling they were experiencing had not been deliberate but due to a tactical necessity. Gee, terrorists moving toward civilians/non-aggressors in hopes of innocent lives being lost? That’s a newsflash.

More Yates Yakking

leave a comment »

The Andrea Yates story just keeps getting better. Like I said before, it’s shit like this which makes people support the death penalty.

A jury on Wednesday found Andrea Yates not guilty by reason of insanity of drowning her five children in a bathtub five years ago.

The verdict, reached after nearly 13 hours of deliberation over three days in Houston, means Yates will be committed to a state mental facility in Texas until she is deemed to be no longer a threat.

I’m guessing she gets released from the crazy house in 5-10 years.

Russell Yates said the prosecution failed to understand “that Andrea was ordinarily a loving mother who fell to this disease and did an unthinkable act.”

He added, “Yes, Andrea took the lives of our children. That’s the truth. But also, yes, she was insane. Yes, she was psychotic on that day. That’s the whole truth.”

He said the state “never attempted to get to the whole truth.”

He said he was proud of the jury for reaching its finding in Harris County, Texas — “the death-penalty capital of the world.”

Russell Yates rejected criticism that he should have known his wife was a danger to their children.

“We took her to a psychiatrist and the psychiatrist failed us,” he said.

Russell Yates said he was planning to visit his ex-wife Wednesday night. He said he and Andrea Yates are “good friends” and often reminisce together about their children.

Maybe it indeed was best for these kids that they got killed relatively early on in their lives before their parents could do some real damage to them.
