Tax The Rich, Err, “Highly Paid”

leave a comment »

Was there any doubt?

An income tax surcharge on highly paid Americans emerged as the leading option Wednesday night as House Democrats sought ways to pay for health care legislation that President Hussein favors, several officials said.

And what is the definition of “rich,” err, “highly paid”?

As discussed in the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, the surtax would apply to individuals with adjusted gross income of more than $200,000 and couples over $250,000, they added.

So now if you are a couple, “highly paid” could be $125,000/year if both people make the same amount.

In addition, key lawmakers are expected to call for a tax or fee equal to a percentage of a worker’s salary on employers who do not offer health benefits.

Naturally.

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., a member of the panel, said the proposed surtax on high-income taxpayers appealed to her and others as a way to avoid a “nickel-and-dime” approach involving numerous smaller tax increases. She added that other earlier options had fallen away, including an increase in the payroll tax…

Of course you do.

…The developments stood in contrast to the Senate, where Democrats edged away from their goal of passing ambitious health care legislation by early August amid heightening partisan controversy over tax increases and a proposed new government role in providing insurance to consumers.

Fuck it. I don’t care anymore. Tax the producers more and give less responsibility to the gutter trash and those too lazy to provide for themselves. Yeah, I know. All those without health insurance are 60-year-old hard-working Americans who got laid off and then hit by an uninsured drunk driver on their way home from their final day of work.

And all children victims of gun violence are eight-year-old honor students that got into their redneck father’s unlocked gun box.

I’d bring up the point that $200,000 in New York City isn’t quite the same as $200,000 in Omaha, but you shitdicks in these high cost-of-living urban areas routinely vote Democrat. I feel no pity.

Will There Be No Place Like The Nursing Home?

So here was a conversation this afternoon between the Better Half and me. Please note, she has already told me about this appointment several times this week. Also keep in mind that this exchange took place during the 2 p.m. hour.

Mrs. kkk: “Don’t forget you have to leave work at around 3:30 so I can get to my appointment.”
Me: “Oops. Call me again at 3:20 in case I forget.”
Her: “That’s really sad, you know that?”
Me: “Yeah, I know.”

She has a list of things I have to do before she carts me off to the old folk’s home. Sadly, that list is a bit too near the completed stage for my liking. Then again, as long as I have a PS2 and Internet access in my room I might not mind the move.

I’ve actually wondered about this topic in the past. If there is still an Internet 50 years from now, will all of us be blogging/message board posting while waiting for the Grim Reaper’s visit? Will I other people be downloading porn while bed-ridden? And for that matter, what will the RIAA do about some 90-year-old illegally downloading music?

Then again, by posting at a message board, it might reduce the chance of us future seniors repeating what we say considering we would already see previous posts. Then again, we will probably not remember our account’s user name and/or password.

Sonfoabitch.

Someone might want to look into whether an impostor took President Hussein’s place during his trip to Russia

In a release touting an agreement between Osama and President Dmitry Medvedev over how to craft a follow-up to the START arms reduction treaty, the White House claimed the document had been signed by one “Barak Osbama.”

And for the record, I did NOT post the following in the comments section: “Maybe that is how it is spelled on his birth certificate?”
