Terrific Thursdays

leave a comment »

You know, I try my best not to be a “Thank God It’s Friday” person. If you just look forward to each Friday, you tend to tune out of your larger goals in life. Besides, hearing, “Aren’t you glad it’s FrIdAy?!” gets on my nerves.

With that said, anyone who works a regular 9 to 5 job or goes to school can’t help but feel a little giddy on Friday and a little depressed on Sunday night. I remember Paul Harvey once talking about some study showing that people actually get depressed more on Sunday night because of the dread of going back to work the next day.

And with that said, I actually think Thursday is a very underrated day of the week. It’s like Friday Eve. The precursor to Friday and the weekend.

What day of the week do I think I am? I’d say Tuesday. I’m not the WORST out there, but I’m not much better. Sort of like a, “Oh, it’s you. Well lets’ this over with.”

Where the hell am I gonig with this? No clue. I’ll just stop now.

No Lyin About My Love For This Sign

Why am I posting this story?

Power has been restored to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium after being out since 10 p.m. Wednesday night, said Tracy Gray, the facility’s spokeswoman.

Because it reminded me of the business not too far from me that puts up from time-to-time the following on its marquee:

“Zoo Has African Lion/White House Has Lyin African”

God I love my county.

Republican Pol In Some Deep Doo-Doo

The big shocker would be if he WASN’T gay. Then again, maybe by voting against “gay rights measures,” it’s some level of masochism.

A California state senator who reportedly has voted against every gay rights measure since he took office eight years ago was charged with driving under the influence on Wednesday, reportedly after leaving a gay nightclub in Sacramento.

Sen. Roy Ashburn, a Republican from Bakersfield, was spotted driving erratically at about 2 a.m. Wednesday in downtown Sacramento, officials said. He was arrested after taking a sobriety test, and he was taken to Sacramento County Jail, where he was administered a blood-alcohol test prior to being booked and released.

I don’t know what’s funnier. The name of the club or the part about the passenger.

He was arrested after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento, according to cbs13.com. A male passenger, who was not identified as a lawmaker, was also in the car but was not detained, the TV station reported.

Hitting The Court

Remember that Oregon football player that punched that player from Boise State? He was suspended for much of the season.

I expect nothing less from this.

The Baylor star who created buzz with her above-the-rim dunks is likely to face discipline after punching an opposing player in the face.

Officials ejected Brittney Griner after the freshman punched Texas Tech’s Jordan Barncastle in No. 14 Baylor’s 69-60 win over the Lady Raiders on Wednesday night.

Lady Bears coach Kim Mulkey said she’ll deal with Griner. But Baylor and the Big 12 Conference likely will consider their own punishments as the team prepares for Sunday’s season finale against Missouri.

“There’s no place for that in sports,” Mulkey said. “It was ugly for women’s basketball. It was ugly that coaches were on the court, that benches cleared, and I will take care of that with my team.”

Baylor was up 55-39 when Barncastle fouled Griner while guarding her under the Lady Bears basket. As the Tech player was moving away and untangling her arm from Griner, the Baylor standout swung and landed a punch with her right hand on Barncastle’s face.

What Griner should have done was yank the other player’s hair, like Elizabeth Lambert did against BYU.
