Russell Walks The Plank

with 2 comments

So the Pirates fired manager John Russell. I’m not even going to post a story stating this because I don’t care.

When I first heard this news, my initial thought was … didn’t this guy recently get a contract extension?

Oh my God he did. From June of this year.

The Pittsburgh Pirates extended the contracts of manager John Russell and general manager Neal Huntington for the 2011 season without making a public announcement during the offseason.

The Pirates were coming off a 99-loss season in 2009 and, amid slumping ticket sales, apparently felt announcing the winter deals might further lessen enthusiasm for this season. Huntington was given a one-year extension through 2011, and the club picked up Russell’s option.

The team only lost six more games this year than they did last year. What’s the big deal?

While I’m on this subject, remember the entry about the Pirates AA manager getting the boot despite being named manager of the year and leading his team to a championship? Let me re-post a line from that article:

Walbeck was told there was no other job for him in the Pirates’ organization. He has talked of wanting to manage above the Double-A level.

“No other job for him in the Pirates’ organization.” Any wonder why I don’t take this organization seriously?

Lane Swap

leave a comment »

Pulled a bit of a butthead move during the workplace commute this morning. I was on the interstate and traffic was backed up at a place where it’s not usually jammed. I was in the far right lane. I noticed about 20-30 feet in front of me that a public works vehicle was parked with its lights on. That means car accident. Whoopie.

I then noticed a car in the right-center lane with his right blinker on wanting to get in my lane because there’s an exit about a mile away. Dude, don’t you see what I see? Meh. Let’s make the switch — your lane for my lane. Now the guy is where I used to be, travels 10 feet or so and is … at the scene of the accident and is now pinned, unable to get back into the right-center lane.

It’s the little things in life that get me through the day.

Pubic Museum

Good thing this dope didn’t show a picture of Jesus burning a Koran. That might offend someone.

An art exhibit that critics say features Jesus receiving oral sex from a man is under fire in Loveland, CO. The artwork is part of an exhibit in the city’s public museum.

“It is visual profanity,” said art gallery owner Linda King, in an interview with the Loveland Reporter-Herald. “It disgraces the God of all creation.”

The controversial artwork is part of 10-artist exhibit called, “The Legend of Bud Shark and His Indelible Ink.” The lithograph showing the son of God engaged in a sex act is called, “The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals,” and was created by Stanford University professor Enrique Chagoya.

His exhibit also includes Mexican pornography, Mayan symbols and ethnic stereotypes, according to the Associated Press. But it’s a 12-panel lithograph that appears to depict Jesus Christ in a sex act that has locals enraged.

“This is a taxpayer-supported, public museum and it’s family-friendly,” Donna Rice told the Denver Post. She’s also a member of the city council. “This is not something the community can be proud of.”

Dozens of people turned out to protest the exhibit — many hoping the city council will stop using taxpayer money to fund the museum.

However, that’s probably not going to happen. Rice told the newspaper that the city attorney has indicated that a painting of Jesus having oral sex does not meet the criteria of public obscenity.

LOL. Sorry, I have to read that part again.

…the city attorney has indicated that a painting of Jesus having oral sex does not meet the criteria of public obscenity.

OK. Back to the article.

“This is not art – it’s smut, pure and simple,” Ronald Minto told the Post. “(But) this is a museum, not an X-rated bookstore.”

The artist defended his work and said he was surprised by the outcry.

“My intentions are not to offend anybody,” Chagoya told the Associated Press. “The main intention of my work is to express my personal concerns about religious institutions, not about the actual religious beliefs, which I respect.”

Here’s an image of said image. I’m guessing the image in question is on the bottom right.

Hey Christians, you don’t want this shit created? Start lopping off the heads of those who produce and display this crap. Riot in the street. Riot in the museum. Hell, BURN the museum down or strap some boom-booms to one of your followers and have that person enter and detonate during peak business hours.

I guess it would be easy to be offended, but knowing the twat who created this masterpiece and the museum currently having this on display wouldn’t consider publishing anything Mohammad-related makes me indifferent to these type of instances.
