Mario Should Have Bottled Up This Water

leave a comment »

So the VS announcers just said that before the season-opener at the new Consol Energy Center, Penguins owner Mario Lemieux took some of the water from the old Civic Mellon Arena and poured it into the new arena.

The Penguins had a horrible history at the Civic Mellon Arena. My God, a Penguin fan shouldn’t want ANYTHING from the old place to infect the new. Outside of the champion banners, of course.

Jam The Presses

with one comment

So I had a fun day with the copy machine today.

You know how when you get a jam at a copier the little light comes on indicating what part of the copier is jammed — Slot A, B, C, etc.?

Wanna know why? Because my co-worker ordered this hippie eco-recylced paper. This shit just didn’t jive with the corporation-y mega-polluting copier.

And we’ve got at least a half-dozen more reams of this “green” paper. But with all the jams these sheets are causing, I’m sure we’ll go through this in no time — talk about enviro-friendly. We use up half of the paper by clearing paper jams. In a way this reminds me of low-flow toilets. You have to flush the damn thing three times as much to get everything down.

Yoga = UnChristian? That’s A Stretch

leave a comment »

So THAT’S why the fitness center down the street from me promotes, “Christian Karate” on its marquee.

A Southern Baptist leader who is calling for Christians to avoid yoga and its spiritual attachments is getting plenty of pushback from enthusiasts who defend the ancient practice.

Southern Baptist Seminary President Albert Mohler says the stretching and meditative discipline derived from Eastern religions is not a Christian pathway to God.

Mohler said he objects to “the idea that the body is a vehicle for reaching consciousness with the divine.”

“That’s just not Christianity,” Mohler told The Associated Press.

Mohler said feedback has come through e-mail and comments on blogs and other websites since he wrote an essay to address questions about yoga he has heard for years.

“I’m really surprised by the depth of the commitment to yoga found on the part of many who identify as Christians,” Mohler said.

I’m not kidding. That’s what that sign actually says: “Christian Karate.”

Oh, yeah. Back to this crap.

Mohler argued in his online essay last month that Christians who practice yoga “must either deny the reality of what yoga represents or fail to see the contradictions between their Christian commitments and their embrace of yoga.”

He said his view is “not an eccentric Christian position.”

Other Christian leaders have said practicing yoga is incompatible with the teachings of Jesus. Pat Robertson has called the chanting and other spiritual components that go along with yoga “really spooky.” California megachurch pastor John MacArthur called yoga a “false religion.” Muslim clerics have banned Muslims from practicing yoga in Egypt, Malaysia and Indonesia, citing similar concerns.

And just when you think there are some fucked-up Jesus freaks, you’ve got good ol’ Islam to put things in perspective. Thanks, Allah.

You learn something new every day, but just because you “learn” doesn’t mean you “retain.”
