No Room At The Lot

leave a comment »

So earlier today I went out to parking lot to go home from work. The lot was filled with vehicles from attendees of a service taking place at the church next door to my workplace. I’m pinned four cars deep.

God, why you gotta do me like that?

But discretion is the better part of valor. Before thinking of ways I could cause a scene in God’s House, I gave the boss a call because I wanted to make sure of the arrangement she had with this church. Basically, employees of the boss’s office building park in this lot, as do members of this church. I discovered that it was the CHURCH which owns the lot, not the boss.

Then why does she enforce the “violators will be towed” signs that are in this lot? Oh what the hell, it’s the holidays. I have time to ponder such things in 2011.

Because of this new development, I went back into my office and put in an extra 90 minutes worth of work until the lot cleared. Let this be a lesson: Don’t always go into a situation guns a’blazing until you get ALL the details you can.

Today’s Traditions

leave a comment »

So I posted this question on my Facebook wall but I felt the need to repost it here (as I do with just about every other FB update). I asked my peeps if there were any holiday traditions they started up as adults that had zero influence from what their parents do/did. As I thought about this question, I came up with a few of my own.

— Black Friday shopping. Not sure if my parents ever did this, but I doubt it. Even if they took part in this event, they probably did not do so with the effort Mrs. kkk and I dedicate. I’ve don’t the Black Friday thing for about 6-7 years now, and for the last several years Mrs. kkk has joined in the festivities. Not sure how long we are going to keep this going — our house can only contain so much stuff — but there will always be household goods needing replaced, so I think this tradition will go on for years to come.

— Putting up the tree the Sunday during Turkey Day weekend. I don’t know how long we have stayed consistent with this one. I’m sure there has been a year or two when we started late, but it always seems we put up the Christmas tree the Sunday during Thanksgiving weekend. Probably because this is the best time to erect the fake tree. Our system consists of me taking out the ornaments from their boxes and making sure the hooks are all in place. As I do this, the better half puts each of them on the tree. She contends I just don’t like hanging the ornaments, and she’s right. However, for whatever reason I actually don’t mind doing my part. Guess it seems more efficient. Oh, and we always play her “Now that’s what I call Christmas” two-disc album with some years including “A South Park Christmas” in the mix. When do we take down the tree? Usually right after New Year’s Day.

— Staying home New Year’s Eve and watching movies. Now this is one “tradition” we have done since we first met in the late 1990s. Neither one of us ever cared for New Year’s Eve; too many drunks.
