A Happy Meal A Day…

leave a comment »

‎”Critics wasted no time complaining that McDonald’s changes don’t go far enough.”

Of course they did.

An apple a day may keep the doctor away. But when you put it in a Happy Meal, it might help keep regulators at bay too. McDonald’s on Tuesday said that it would add apple slices and reduce the portion of French fries in its children’s meal boxes beginning this fall, effectively taking away consumers’ current choice between either having apples with caramel dip or fries as a Happy Meal side.

The move by McDonald’s, which has become a leader in moving from just burgers and fries to more nutritious fare like oatmeal and salads, comes as fast food chains face intense scrutiny from health officials and others who blame the industry for childhood obesity and other health-related problems. Some municipalities, including San Francisco, have even banned fast food restaurants from selling kids’ meals with toys.

Critics wasted no time complaining that McDonald’s changes don’t go far enough. Kelle Louaillier, executive director of a group called Corporate Accountability International, said McDonald’s is just trying to get ahead of impending regulations that will restrict the marketing of junk food to children and require restaurants to post nutrition information on menus, among other changes.

If McDonald’s wants to include healthier options in its menu, then yay. It’s the consumer’s choice whether to eat that greasy shit. And judging from the obesity rates of this country, it appears that the dumbmasses have spoken.

I can’t remember the last time I ate at a McDonald’s, but if someone wants to chow down on quarter pounders then that is his choice. I know the argument about, “Well this type of lifestyle results in higher health care costs for everyone.” True, but if each person was responsible for his health insurance then people would pay for the poor lifestyle choices they make.

Brush Stop

leave a comment »

Why do women fuss with their hair at the stop light with the windows down? The hair is just going to get puffed out again 5 seconds after the light turns green.

Please note I’m not talking about the “brushing hair from eyes” hair fussing? I’m talking about full-fledged re-workings, sometimes with brushes ‘n stuff.

Heck, most guys would probably prefer that wind-out look. Then again, most women dress for other women so it’s a moot point.

Safe To Say That Was A Bad Call

leave a comment »

For those complaining about the Jerry Meals “safe” call, it could have been MUCH worse…

Veteran umpire Jerry Meals felt he was right with the call he made that ended the 4-3, 19-inning win the Braves claimed over the Pirates at Turner Field on Tuesday night. But after going to the dressing room to unwind and look at the play, the veteran umpire saw he might have been wrong to rule that Julio Lugo eluded Pirates catcher Michael McKenry’s tag.

“I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him and I called him safe for that,” Meals said. “I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I’m guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened, I didn’t see a tag.

“I just saw the glove sweep up. I didn’t see the glove hit his leg.”

…He could have made that bullshit call during a Yanks/Sawx game. My God, could you imagine the fallout from THAT?

Actually, I think the story here is that it is late July and the Pirates are still relevant. But I digress.

Now I’m not a huge Twitter person, but I saw some of those “#” comments and had to mention the “#” of all “#” references.

Two girls offer me a swig from their cup #jerrymealssaysitssafe

I’m done.
