Brush Stop

leave a comment »

Why do women fuss with their hair at the stop light with the windows down? The hair is just going to get puffed out again 5 seconds after the light turns green.

Please note I’m not talking about the “brushing hair from eyes” hair fussing? I’m talking about full-fledged re-workings, sometimes with brushes ‘n stuff.

Heck, most guys would probably prefer that wind-out look. Then again, most women dress for other women so it’s a moot point.

Safe To Say That Was A Bad Call

leave a comment »

For those complaining about the Jerry Meals “safe” call, it could have been MUCH worse…

Veteran umpire Jerry Meals felt he was right with the call he made that ended the 4-3, 19-inning win the Braves claimed over the Pirates at Turner Field on Tuesday night. But after going to the dressing room to unwind and look at the play, the veteran umpire saw he might have been wrong to rule that Julio Lugo eluded Pirates catcher Michael McKenry’s tag.

“I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him and I called him safe for that,” Meals said. “I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I’m guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened, I didn’t see a tag.

“I just saw the glove sweep up. I didn’t see the glove hit his leg.”

…He could have made that bullshit call during a Yanks/Sawx game. My God, could you imagine the fallout from THAT?

Actually, I think the story here is that it is late July and the Pirates are still relevant. But I digress.

Now I’m not a huge Twitter person, but I saw some of those “#” comments and had to mention the “#” of all “#” references.

I’m done.

AC Installer

leave a comment »

I have just been “assigned” to install 11 AC units throughout the first floor offices today. The over/under on how many wind up on the ground outside by tomorrow morning is 5.

Oh, and remember those teens I was told to fire? They’re back (don’t ask why because I don’t know either) and are going to help me.

What could possibly go wrong?

Look, Up In The Sky

Like the Senate’s “Gang of Six” (or whatever the number is now) isn’t dumb enough.

Debt ceiling negotiators think they’ve hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public’s unwillingness to let go of benefits such as Medicare and Social Security that have been earned over a lifetime of work: Create a new Congress.

This “Super Congress,” composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn’t mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers — six from each chamber and six from each party.

Legislation approved by the Super Congress — which some on Capitol Hill are calling the “super committee” — would then be fast-tracked through both chambers, where it couldn’t be amended by simple, regular lawmakers, who’d have the ability only to cast an up or down vote. With the weight of both leaderships behind it, a product originated by the Super Congress would have a strong chance of moving through the little Congress and quickly becoming law. A Super Congress would be less accountable than the system that exists today, and would find it easier to strip the public of popular benefits. Negotiators are currently considering cutting the mortgage deduction and tax credits for retirement savings, for instance, extremely popular policies that would be difficult to slice up using the traditional legislative process.

Getting Fired Up

So earlier this month the boss hired some high-schoolers to do village-idiot work in the building.

Today, as ordered by the boss, I gave the high-schoolers the employment ban-hammer. Today’s lesson: If you joined a union, you’d still have a job. Until the Mexicans show up, anyway.
